This started out as a meditative reflection of the changing seasons and how they alter the environmental landscape of the Catskills.
Twelve scenarios were captured, each scene revolving around a chosen focal point (Absolute position). Evidence of the industrial world was intentionally apparent
in some while absent in others. I set out to revisit these same sites at regular monthly intervals; same place, same day of month. A study of how different
backgrounds assume varying levels of depending on the time of X year.
Over the period of the year my focus began to shift. It became increasingly apparent that my real interest was directed more toward the technical aspects of the operation, such as how the camera was set up, and ascertaining exact location (Absolute position) at which to place the tripod. over time, the absolute position ceased to be so and deviated from its original setting. Similarly, what I had initially chosen as my subject(The camera) gradually began to turn into the object,
whilst the original object started to slowly dissapear and fade in significance in front of me.
I tramp a perpetual journey, (come listen all!)
My signs are a rain-proof coat and good shoes and a staff
cut from the woods;
No friend of mine takes his ease in my chair,
I have no chair, no church, no philosophy,
I lead no man to a dinner-table, library, exchange,
But each man and each woman of you I lead upon a
knoll,
My left hand hooking you round the waist,
My right hand pointing to landscapes of continents
and the public road.
Not I, not any one else can travel that road for you,
You must travel it for yourself.
